Huelva 2016 (SAFI 3rd Userboard meeting)

The third and final Userboard meeting for the SAFI program was held in the IFAPA offices in Huelva, Spain on April 6th, 2016.

Run and facilitated by staff from University College Cork, the Daithí O' Murchu Marine Research Station (DOMMRS), and IFAPA, this series of small workshops focused on getting Userboard feedback for the final refinements of the SAFI service and system, refine the training course that SAFI will host in August in Morocco, and demonstrated SAFI's capabilities in the Userboard member's areas of interest.

Guidance and feedback given have been distilled into a series of actions, which have been applied throughout the project's activities as SAFI enters the final phase of development, and are shaping the nature of the consortium's future activities as they strive to meet your needs beyond SAFI. The SAFI project team wishes to thank all Userboard members so far for their enthusiasm, their ideas and their constructive criticism at the all three meetings, and indeed every opportunitiy you have taken to tell us what you think of the products and services we have been developing. Your contribution is very much appreciated and we look forward to showcasing our work to you in Morocco.

Huelva UB-3: What was done:

Userboard members participated in a number of highly interactive workships,

Four group consultation exercises were held:

  • A group consultation focused on SAFI Service Demonstrations, and deriving a number of Userboard-requested demonstrations for showcasing in Morocco
  • A demonstration and feedback session showcasing a number of SAFI service Demonstrations,
  • A recommendations exercise gathering topic guidance for the content of the training event to be held in Morocco
  • A group consultation focused on gathering Userboard advice and guidance on the potential opportunities which lie beyond the end of FP-7 funding, and commercialisation of the SAFI service.

Presentations

 

SAFI TEam Actions arising from the consultation:

  1. The SAFI team shall report the general feedback on the utility and potential for tools such as the SAFI tool presented at UB-3 back to the Commission.
  2. The SAFI team shall examine the observations on SAFI’s tools and suggestions for refinements. Some of these shall be implemented under the framework for the last 6 months of SAFI Service Development, with the others drawn into the list of refinements for the next stage of SAFI service development beyond the FP-7 funded portion of the SAFI initiative.
  3. Suggestions by the Userboard on branding, marketing and general promotion shall be examined and incorporated into the SAFI team’s outreach activities for the next 6 months, and formulation of the business plan.
  4. Suggestions by the Userboard on future thematic research, system development avenues, regions of interest, species of interest, and novel applications of interest arising from the SAFI initiative shall be collated into discrete guidance points for consortium proposals beyond the FP7 timeframe of the SAFI Initiative. Those unaddressed by the FP7-SAFI project specifically shall be reported to the Commission to aid shaping future calls to address the needs of the aquaculture and fisheries sector.
  5. Suggestions for training topics, and queries where Users required clarifications on the nature of the research, or tools use, shall be incorporated into the thematic content covered at the training course in Morocco.
  6. The Userboard-defined scenarios for demonstration shall be implemented on a resource-dependant basis using the prioritisation derived from the Userboard.
  7. The SAFI team shall incorporate the Userboard-identified list of pressing issues facing the aquaculture and fisheries sector into their reports to the Commission as guidance for funding and investment calls, and policy recommendations into the future. These shall be accompanied by the Userboard-recommended set of opportunities for future activities where Industry-Academia-Agency partnerships such as SAFI are target to address sector needs and unlock opportunities.
